  • Subject: FW: hardware question regarding config PPP connections

anyone know if the 2699 will work in a model 400. The rest of the hardware
appears to be PCI which obviously does not mean the model 400.

Forgot the reference document that mentions this:

http://as400service.rochester.ibm.com/s_dir/slkbase.NSF/1ac66549a21402188625
680b0002037e/a9663b7ad397058a86256625006b4bca?OpenDocument&Highlight=2,PPP,a
dapter

It mentions the following:

The requirements for PPP are similar to SLIP, but there are two main
differences the user needs to
be aware of:

One of the below Input Output Adapters (IOA) must be installed in order to
configure PPP.

2699 - - Two-line WAN IOA
2720 - - PCI WAN/Twinaxial IOA
2721 - - PCI Two-line WAN IOA
2745 - - PCI Two-line WAN IOA
2750 - - PCI ISDN BRI U IOA (2-wire interface)
2751 - - PCI ISDN BRI S/T IOA (4-wire interface)
2761 - - 8 port analog modem IOA

Secondly, the user must also have Client Access Operations Navigator under
Windows 95/NT in order to fully configure PPP or SLIP at the R420 level. A
Client Access license is not needed, but the
user needs the base load of Client Access to access the Operations
Navigator portion.

The message is correct. 2609's & 2612's do not support PPP.
You would be restricted to a SLIP connection.
I don't believe there is any comm hardware for a model 400 that supports
PPP.

I am trying to configure a PPP connection using Ops Navigator. I have
does
many of these in the past with no problem. I am trying to configure a
model
400 at V4R4 and when I try to create a new line description (again in OPs
navigator), I get an error saying that the hardware in the machine does
not
support creating a PPP line desc. Below are the comm cards I have in this
box, I had hoped to use CMN03. Can anyone verify this to be a problem, if
it is what hardware for a model 400 do I need?

cjg
