A Windows newbie, yes, a day would be about right. Took me about 2.5 hours to get configured correctly and running for a brand new 820 - although that was V4R5 - V5R1 looks a little more complex. > > Call me old fashioned. Call me a geezer. I don't care. > Anyone that thinks Ops Console is the way to go, I would > sure like to hear from you. You old fashioned geezer :-). Ops console is great. It works, and works well - FOR US ! We've got it on an NT4 box talking to an 820. We can dial in from home. Do an option 21 save. Grab a cold beer. Restrict the system. End TCP/IP. IPL. Grab another cold beer from the fridge. RCLSTG *ALL. Another beer. Play with the control panel. STRTCP. You get the idea.... It's a horses for courses sort of thing. At the end of the day it boils down to how comfortable your iSeries staff are with PC's. If they're happy enough with PC stuff, they tend to be less cautious about an Operations Console. I had a hard time convincing the staff here to get an Ops Console when we bought the new 820's. It's taken less than six months for them to think they're fantastic - mainly from a support point of view. I do, however, agree that a green-screen is a lot more simple to configure. > > Charly Jones > Geezer in Gig Harbor > Dwayne Lindner Senior Network Analyst Wesfarmers Rural Information Technology 184 Railway Parade, Bassendean WA 6054 Ph: (08) 9273 5365 Mob: 0407 386 693 Email: dwayne.lindner@writ.wesfarmers.com.au +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
