I spent 3 months (off and on) trying to get our first system w/ Ops
console instead of a twinax console working. It was not mission critical
(luckily).  Turned out that the serial port on the laptop I was using
had a bad Receive Data line.  Once I tracked that down, it worked fine. 
But, I think a twinax console is really the only way to go.
