While we may not like how certain things are marketed, handled or perceived the computer system iSeries (formerly the AS/400) is not going away. It will change, evolve, have the operating system renamed. Here is a quote from Buell Duncan: 'let me be crystal clear, we have absolutely no intention of moving away from the iseries and as/400 architecture...now or in the future. if anything, the integration around os/400 that makes it so strong in the market is becoming more and more important as businesses are even more focused on controlling their total costs.' Here is a quote from Al Zollar (Lotus CEO) 'I would say iSeries is our best platform for taking out Exchange...The iSeries is one of the most scalable platforms for Domino, and it has always been one of the most easy-to-use, drop-in platforms.' With no place to move RPG programs, IBM loses a huge base of existing customers. Hard to see that happening. What may happen is the development of a box that supports both OS/400 and other operating systems simultaneously. Heck, that's already happening, and I like it. But to say that the very last AS/400 will be built some 20-odd months from now is an awfully inflammatory comment, especially with no backing. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
