Well I would of beaten you to it, but if he wants to play with the etc. I
have to restrict what they can play with as it might cause problems for
others.

Make sure you know what can be transferred and what cannot. I am not sure
or I would tell you. I think IBM has started to include the compilers and
some (or all) of PDM for V4R5. I think V4R4 you needed keys for the
products. So someone can say they will through in a product, but if IBM
does not know about it and you go to V4R4 or later you will have to buy it.

Also on software subscription if it lapses you pay 18 months to reactivate
it. One business partner told me I could pay for the missed time instead. I
do not think they give you a grace period if you just bought the machine.

Another thing I could not just buy the software I needed for an AS/400 (I
bought from an end user), from any business partner. They have/had a value
ad thing.

The one thing I thought I would have a problem with I did not, was proving
to IBM the AS/400 worked (it did work) for hardware maintenance. I thought
they would want to see it running, nope. One thing about hardware
maintenance was the first contract I got said it was not in the home or
home office and the web site said that also, but the business partner got
one that did not say that and I think that might of been removed from all
of them now.

It really is not as bad as it sounds as long as you know what to look out
for and the above includes everything I know about.

You could check out http://www.developer.ibm.com also IBM credit sells
used AS/400 sorry I do not have the link nearby. Not sure how their prices
compare to others.
