I was scratching my head trying to remember PFE when you brought it up, Martin.

IIRC, the guy that developed DBU left ProData and started Oasis and developed
PFE back about 7 years ago or so. At first, PFE was a better performing clone
of DBU, so ProData sued Oasis. Oasis changed the look & feel a bit and that
apparently made everybody happy again.

I will say I've seen DBU in just about every shop I've worked in. Here we
have it on our development box, but not on any of our branch boxes. So thank
goodness for WRKDBF!

I looked at a number of products a few years back for use in our shop and
settled on PFE (Passport File Editor) from Oasis Software. It was very
close to DBU in terms of features, but came in at half the price. They've
now merged with Linoma and appear to sell the editor[1] (now File
Access/400) at $999. One thing I like is the ability to create PFE macros
which are a bit like DFUs on steroids - very handy.

Having said that, quite a few of our staff prefer to use WRKDBF, so they
must think it's pretty good too. I can't comment on support issues as
both have worked fine, so we've never needed it.

Regards, Martin
