That family of computers has been using ethernet for over 20+ years.
You generally don't think of adding a card to a 390, rather a feature
to a communications front end processor. The majority of 390/3090 shops
use somthing like a 37XX communication controller which handles whatever
protocol you wish to receive. I suppose the newer boxes use a RS/6000 or
somthing similar as a front end for communications.

It isn't the same concept you are familar with(AS/400).
