Ken,

If you already checked what the other guys said, following is a post from
Jim Franz that I saved from a couple of months ago.

One other thing I can think of is if the batteries in the UPS were shot,
maybe it would do that.

AS/400 GLITCH SPOOKS CUSTOMER
http://www.as400network.com/nwn/story.cfm?ID=8810
After a user complained that his AS/400 seemed to be haunted, IBM
and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) manufacturer Best Power
discovered that under certain operating and environmental
conditions, the continuous powered mainstore (CPM) UPS units that
Best Power manufactures for IBM Global Services to resell may cause
AS/400 servers to shut down without corresponding source code. The
CPM units at risk are 9910-080 and 9910-140 UPS Products with serial
numbers EC 2P OD 47286 2.07 code, EC 2P OD 47287 2.08 code, EC 2P OD 47275
4.01 code. EC numbers are located on the rear of the UPS.

IBM and Best Power issued a software enhancement to ward off the
remote -- but frightful -- possibility. The free enhancement as well
as technical support is available at
http://www.bestpower.com/service_support/ibmalert/. Customers can
also call Best Power at 1-800-356-5737.
