I think Novell can do something like this (don't quote me on this). I
overheard our network admin saying something about some program that can add
a user to NT, Novell, and the 400 (iSeries) in one shot. I bet the password
could be changed that way also.

In short, you cannot get around it.

You can either change the network user id or create another as/400 user
profile of the same name (which can't be done with the 10 character limit).
The only way for this is to change the network id to equal the as400 id.
Also, the password must be the same. So when the 400 password changes the
user will have to also change their pc/network password unless you set the
400 password not expire.

I understand that IBM is working on this and may have a feature in the
future to change both the 400 password as well as the pc/network password.

No workaround that we know of.

Subject: Netserver share

Hello all,

I recently configured Netserver on one of our AS400. Very neet. But I have
one problem.

I created a subdirectory and I want to give access to to a user. I do not
want the user to have access to anything else. So I created a share but when
the user want to access it, he is ask for a password but not for a user id.
I foud out that the userId on his machine must match a user Id on the
AS/400. That is a problem because his network userId is more than 10
caracter long (it is the first letter of is first name plus his hole last
name).

Any suggestion on how to go around this?
