50GB is the max(unless there is a letter that extended that). At the
time of
the 9402-400, the larger drives weren't available. I have since ordered
the
larger 8gb drives with no problem. This normally requires a special PTF
for
the box but that's no big deal. You might want to root around in the 
annoucement letters to see if the newer drives were allowed at a later
date.
I'm not sure the 17gb's were ever allowed, but that's hard to know for 
sure.

The total DASD space available is(was) 50gb, so if you choose to mirror
the
entire machine, you end up with 25gb(there abouts)

It's only a concern if you attempt a hardware upgrade, and I'm not sure
there is a valid upgrade still left for the 400 to anything.... They
still
might call it an upgrade, but it would be a forklift upgrade.....
