Just thought I'd give a little heads up in case anyone here is going to implement gigabit ethernet on their 400. We've done this, and are quite happy with it. However we had one heck of a shock when doing it - SNA is not supported on a Gigabit Ethernet line. If you hit F1 on the help for CRTLINETH, on the line speed: 1G The line speed is 1 gigabit per second(1000 million bits per second). Note: The value 1G specifies gigabit ethernet. Gigabit ethernet is only available when running strictly TCP/IP protocol. What we did was keep the old Token Ring and/or slower ethernet cards for SNA and run all TCP/IP over the gigabit. Then we informed development how to take advantage including: 1) Using TELNET instead of STRPASTHR. 2) Using *IP instead of *SNA on CRTDDMF 3) Using FTP instead of SNDNETF, SAVRSTOBJ, SAVRSTLIB and the like 4) Using Client Access Express, or using the TCP/IP version of Client Access instead of SNA Other than this, there are no complaints, and a very significant increase in performance.
