Alt-leftarrow is every bit as much an > error as turning off the screen - or ending the browser. Telling a browser user that he can't use the Alt-Left to backup a screen, is like creating a 5250 app that blows up when the user presses F12, then putting a big red sticker on the keyboard that says "Never Press F12". The point being, if they're used to using it, it's going to happen regardless of how many times you tell them it's not acceptable. > OTOH, Alt-leftarrow is not a "miskey", any more than turning off the screen > is an miskey. So the question is, what are you going to do when the user > simply closes their browser window? I'll do the same thing when screens get > out of sequence: log them off and start 'em over. That's acceptable, and is > the limit of required "defensive programming". If the tube goes, it goes... not much you can do about it. But I've never had to worry about my screens going out of sequence in a 5250 or client/server app. Besides, any decent GUI is going to present a confirmation screen to prevent an accidental shutdown, and I think it's safe to say that unintentionally powering off your workstation is *just a little* less likely to occur than a miskey, or a book falling atop the keyboard. > > If so, then by all means code for Alt-leftarrow. > The question is... can we?
