Thank's Jim. Auto-config is on. In fact, it keeps creating a CTLD of type 6A59, which turns out to be a description that's used for a PC console. During IPL, it attempts to vary on that controller, and subsequently fails because there is no PC console. Even with the SRC, the twinax console does come up, and I can sign on. A look in the QSYSARB job log shows that the system is unable to get an exclusive lock on the terminal for some reason. I think that's why it starts looking for the PC console. Do you know if the PC console requires a special cable, or can I get away with a standard serial cable? I'm willing to hook up a PC to try and get past this. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to recover V4R4 from the backup tapes.
