I take a while for the restore. We did it a year or so ago. It went very
smooth. We also move the 510 expansion unit to the 720, upgraded 8 2gig
drives to 4gig drives, move the magstar tape drive and attached it all to
the 720. We had to re-create all the workstation devices. It was
impossible to restore the configuration. Our ops manager also forgot to
save access paths. BUT the 720 rebuilt them in a flash. The speed will
blow you away!

Now if you are not robbing the 510, (we kept the same serial number), you
can still bring it back up if the 720 install does not go smoothly. Have
you tested any of your plan? Do you have a detailed plan? If no to either
one, PUT IT OFF!

Subject: Box Upgrade

Hi All,

Can anyone give me a confidence level on going from a Model 510 to a 720 in
one weekend ? We will be staying at V4R4.

The plan is (as far as I know) to do a go save 21 on the 510. Shut it down,
turn on the new box, give it the same IP address and name, add the old tape
drive then restore everything.

I am very nervous that everything goes well. Are there any gotchas that I
should be aware of ?

Cyndi
