My vote is with Leif There are several reasons. 1. There was some scientific study long before the www regarding combinations of colors that are easiest on the human eyes & the conclusion was that, when the only thing you are looking at is this, then black print on yellow background is the most eyes-friendly & that is why telephone directories have YELLOW PAGES. My green screen at work can be adjusted, and I have adjusted mine to reverse normal picture from light text on dark background to dark text on light background - I find this much easier on my eyes, 2. My understanding is that when other colors of stuff around your computer monitor, that dictates eye friendliness, and it so happens that around my monitor screen is a sea of white & light colored documents, envelopes, print-outs, etc. so that having the same kind of situation on monitor screen is a continuation of that picture & not a clash for my eyes ... I recognize that varies with the individual. 3. I like to print many places that I visit on the web. Now while I can read light on dark like I can read dark on light, there is a printer quality issue. When the printer is dumping out gallons of black ink, sometimes it "runs" obscuring the quality of the text spaces. 4. Some people have color blindness. They are in a minority, but it is still quite common. Ideally web sites should be made to be usable by widest variety of possible viewers. 5. Some people are middle aged or old. As we get older, our eyes become poorer performers. Web sites should be considerate of this reality. I recognize I in minority on many views - I cannot even convince my own web master that this is a bad idea. > From: klemscot@klements.com (Scott Klement) > I strongly disagree with this.
