While the SAV* diversions are quite interesting, I was hoping to see an answer to the original question. I am rather lazy. I also have a horrendous backlog of things I need to be doing. In addition to the daily backup type tapes, we have some END OF MONTH tapes that get stuff that is written off-line, archived, so one tape might have two years worth of historical transactions in various sized files. If one of these tapes is getting near full, I would like to know before I am faced with a multi-volume situation. How I get it now is a dump of the tape label statistics then spend an evening using a calculator to figure out how much stuff is on that tape. I figure what I need is 1. dump of tape catalog to print 2. copyspool to some file 3. some program use that file data lines to do the math - I not remember how I did it the last time 4. A nice report that shows how much will fit on the tape, and how much each file has eaten, and how much is left space wise for next EOM There may even be some API to get some of this data so I don't have to be futzing around with whatever print-outs are available on the GO TAPE menu MacWheel99@aol.com (Alister Wm Macintyre) (Al Mac) AS/400 Data Manager & Programmer for BPCS 405 CD Rel-02 mixed mode (twinax interactive & batch) @ http://www.cen-elec.com Central Industries of Indiana--->Quality manufacturer of wire harnesses and electrical sub-assemblies - fax # 812-424-6838 +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
