M Hello Frank, You wrote: >Question, We are in the process of moving from an SNA environment to an IP. >Do we lose anything is doing this, in terms of the AS/400? Yes! You lose the ability to accurately determine why a communications link failed. SNA and APPC give decent sense codes which state exactly what the problem is. TCP/IP simply vomits and gives up. Other than that you lose nothing**. You just need to learn different methods for accomplishing the same thing. For example: Replace SNDNETF with FTP Replace SNDNETSPLF with SNDTCPSPLF Replace STRPASTHR with TELNET Replace SNDNETMSG with SNDNWSMSG??? Besides, if you buy decent routers you can run both TCP and SNA on the same network. ** Well you do lose SAVRSTOBJ, SAVRSTLIB, and possibly SBMNETJOB because they require an APPC connection but you could fake that with AnyNet if your routers choke on SNA datastreams.
