Thanks Buck. You are right about the search engine. I have a tendency to enclose the search in quotes & this time I had used "interactive SQL". Just trying to find anything realizing SQL alone would return a "large" number of hits. I also had entered interactive SQL without quotes & still got a large number of hits. About making the subject line more meaningful makes sense. Can't say I even considered what it was being used for, i.e. feeding the Search engine. I will be more explicit/informative next time. Again, thanks. Dennis Munro "I love deadlines. I especially like the whooshing sound they make as they go flying by." The best thing to do there is to spend some time and play with the keywords. I have found that two keywords work the best. I used SQL TOTAL and quickly found the answer: use UNION. Here's the link: http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l/199911/msg00123.html I have also found that hits less than 4 stars are rarely of interest. I only look there when truly desperate. One thing that definitely hampers the search is the lack of correlation between the subject and the problem. This very thread will suffer the same problem. A better subject line might be "How do I show detail and total in a single SQL SELECT?"
