Larry, you may want to look into ASi and their version of PKZIP. Their documentation states that all data is stored in the archive in ASCII format for compatibility purposes. I haven't used it in a couple of years, but I think this is a good match for your requirements. http://www.asizip.com/products/ hth, Eric DeLong ______________________________ Reply Separator _________________________________ Subject: Re: EBCDIC-to-ASCII Author: "Larryt222@aol.com" <SMTP:Larryt222@aol.com> at EXCHANGE Date: 2/2/01 8:21 AM I guess I am not making my self understood. We FTP a zipped file therefore not translation can talk place. The sole purpose is to reduce the amount of time transfering the data because the files being FTPd are very big. Last nights file was 976MB unzipped. We did the CPYTOSTMF but that takes a lot of time. I want to be able to translate the PF back and forth from ASCII to EBCDIC etc. This would eliminate the timely CPYTOSTMF. The zipping would eliminate the costly transfer by FTP.
