  • Subject: Need to manipulate files on the AS400's IFS without using Client Access

How can we using a remote PC workstation (connecting via the internet)
manipulate IFS files without using Client Access?

Background:
We are using the "Netserver" features with some of our PC applications to
access files in the IFS, these applications work great as long as the
workstation is on the LAN. Where the rub comes is when the workstation is
a remote workstation using the internet.
Our path looks something this "WinWord.exe \\Qserver\IFSfolder\Filename.doc
" . (Winword is used here only as an example, we are using several PC
applications)

When the string is launched from remote workstation we get an 'unable to
connect to the server message'

Using Windows9x and the Find Computer function, we can drill down to the
shared folders. Once this has been done we are able to run our remote PC
applications using the IFS. Windows ME and 2000 do not seem to have Find
Computer feature and so far are unable to connect.

This is all very Mickey Mouse, we need to address the connectivity within
our PC applications so our 'end users' don't have to mess with these steps.

Thanks,

Curt
