Paul:

We have a similar configuration to yours (730 running V4R4) and converted
from the 3590 B11 to E11 about a year ago. We have seen definite
improvements in backup times and number of tapes (capacity) required to do
our backups. Our largest nightly backup has dropped from nearly 4 hours to
around 2 ½ hours. That same backup used to take 3 ½ tapes, it is now on two
tapes. There were some issues in the conversion (our IBM CE had to requested
updated micro code) and you must reformat your existing cartridges to
*FMT3590E for maximum capacity. There are supposed to be newer 3590 media
with up to 100GB capacity available (these only work with the 3590 E11), but
we have not looked into those. You may want to get IBM or your installer
back in to make sure the micro code on the 3590 is correct.

I hope this helps some.

3590 E11

I currently have a model 730 running V4R4 and have currently
upgraded from a
                3590 B11 to a 3590 E11. The drive is attached to a 6534 SCSI
SPD card. I'm
not seeing the promised 50% increase on my full system
backups. The backups
have run for 10 hours on both the B11 and E11. IBM states
that the E11 has
a faster data transfer rate of 14mbs vs 9mbs for the B11.
Has anyone
experienced this problem? Any suggestions? Thanks
