Lief,

As soon as IBM called Java "Strategic" Java was dead...

SAA - Strategic
San Francisco - Strategic
OS/2 - Strategic

AS/400 - NEVER been Strategic

'nuff said.

WEB FEATURE: MICROSOFT JUMPS THE JAVA SHIP,
WHILE IBM STAYS THE COURSE
http://www.as400network.com/news/nwn/story.cfm?ID=9392
Microsoft announced plans to help programmers migrate from Java to
the Microsoft .Net platform, making the "write once, run anywhere"
ideal seem unlikely. Still, IBM doesn't plan to back away from the
standard -- it's Java as usual.

"While Java will continue to run on the Windows platform
and other vendors like IBM can deliver product replacements for the
Java development tools that Microsoft might have built

===> as with DOS:
"DOS ain't done until Lotus won't run"
"Windoze ain't done until Java won't run"

But IBM plans to stay the course with Java:
"From an iSeries perspective, not for a heartbeat are we going
to deviate from the Java plan that's laid out"

===> yeah, just as with OS/2, OV, V3R2 ...
