John, Yep - As we saw with the DOJ trial, Microsoft aren't too good at editing videos are they ! :-) ...Neil jpcarr@TREDEGAR.COM Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com 2001/01/11 21:47 Please respond to MIDRANGE-L To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com cc: Subject: Re: AS/400s Extinct at Microsoft I have a couple of stories. 1. I was teaching up in the Seattle area about a year ago and one of the students I was teaching (SQL on the AS/400) was telling me that he just left Microsoft. He was working on the conversion of AS/400 -> NT. While I was teaching DB Constraints (Referential, Check, etc) he relayed a funny story of when he was helping to move from DB2/400 to SQL server that they tried to implement DB Constraints( I think Referential) and that after 2-4 days of running just trying to get a sync point, they had to quit. They could never achieve a sync point just trying to apply the DB constraint. He said the AS/400 didn't have that problem and that MS had decided to run with out the constraints. 2. I sent out a question about a year ago on COMP.SYS.IBM.AS400.MISC about people knowing any thing about AS/400's running at MS. I got a couple of responses. One was from a guy from Atlanta who worked for a service company there. He said that Yes, They own the AS/400's and that they are dedicated to the MS account. They do MS's processing on them and so technically MS could say they don't use the AS/400's. 3. A couple of years ago, I remember a posting on MidrangeComputing's forum from a guy who had a film clip of a MS Stockholder's meeting and MS showed a video of their computer center. As the camera panned the computer room on one wall was a line of AS/400's. They didn't notice it when making the video I guess. 4. I corresponded with a lady from England/Ireland who saw AS/400's at MS's distribution Center there.
