I've never worked on an async console, so can't tell if the following 
will help, but have you tried using the data queue technique for 
auto-refreshing the screen. You get a bit more flexibility, in that you 
can set the wait time you want at run time (or at any point while the 
program runs). I've got a DDS / RPG/400 example on my site (go to the 
Usenet code samples in the Extras section[1]) which may give some further 
tips. There's a DDS / CL auto-refresh routine there as well.
