For the 7852-400 modem the SETMDMASC('END') value on the Async line description will take care of switching from Sync to Async (and back to Sync when the line varies off).  We do this for PPP, and also for Fax, using the 7852.
Depending on your OS/400 release level you may need a PTF to make this work correctly.
MF21288 & SF57108 for V4R2; MF21674 & SF57540 for V4R3; SF56155 for V4R4
Also see informational APAR II12085.

PS - For V4R5 if you are using PPP with an answer profile you should also install SF64285 or your connection will fail.

We are moving to sending our remaining EDI transactions
to EXPEDITE (ADVANTIS) via dial-up PPP.  Unfortunately,
the only modem we have on our EDI system is our ECS modem.

I have looked at the manuals trying to find a sample program of how to
switch the modem settings from synchronous to asynch and back
since EXPEDITE is asynch and IBM is synch.

Anyone out there have a sample program or point me in the right direction?

TIA
Jim K
