It sounds like you need a spool archive system more than you need
save/restore for spool files.

We use Spyview from Magellan <http://www.magellan.com>. We use it both to
archive spooled entries and also to archive scanned documents (like invoices
with the customer's acceptance signature on it). We only archive SCS
documents however; we do not archive any AFP documents. So I can't say
offhand if it can handle that or not, but I expect that it can.

The Magellan software lets us look up documents by customer number, invoice
number, date, etc.; which a simple save/restore function would not support.

There are a lot of other spool archiving products on the market as well. I
mention Magellan because that's what we use. I have no connection with
Magellan other than being a user.
