But are you just converting to RPGIV from III? If you still compile to the default activation group you do not get the ILE performance hit or file override problems that can crop up in the ILE environment. We converted all to RPGIV and make it ILE when necessary. Our crtxxxpgm default is still DFTACTGRP(*YES) and we put in the Header Specs to set the appropriate activation group, binding directories when we need to use external procedures. I ask myself things like "What's this IFEQ opcode?" and other silly questions. I tend to convert everything I need to change more than a few lines of code on. That way I'll at least understand my modifications as well as I ever understand my modifications. Admittedly this is like reading Chaucer with parts machine translated into modern English, but I'm willing to bet that if there are future generations of RPG programmers, they'll probably not do too well with RPG Classic. I think I'd want some sort of compulsion/coercion to do a wholesale translation on entire systems, though. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
