Sounds like CCSID 65535.

Select "Properties" from the file menu of the Data Transfer from.... panel
and make sure "Convert CCSID 65535" is checked.  If it is, and you're still
getting garbage, you need the advice of a person who knows what he or she is
doing.

I really miss the ETU Utilities. <g>
