  • Subject: RE: Has ANYONE gotten Perl CGI to work on the AS/400?

Well, I was able to restore the libraries and create the symlink, and even
run some test scripts from the Qshell, believe it or not. My scripts ran
fine, with variable interpoloation etc. My problems are arising when I try
to get a Perl script to execute using CGI... I keep getting either a 500 or
a 404 server error message.

Oh, you have to be running QSHELL to use that command BTW, I don't remember
if they said to in the docs or not. Try going to the QSH prompt before
typing it in. The QShell is I think the OS/400's emulated Unix command line,
I ws pretty impressed when I first saw it.

I tried to specify what MIME types are used, like application/x-perl or
application/cgi in the server startup configuration, but that doesn't seem
to help either.

Anyway, I was messing around and I stumbled across a guide to setting up
Net.Data from IBM's site. It was sort of strange but I thought what the hey.
Gave up after a while, (this was last night), but then today I tried it
again and voila.

So anyway, I might use Net.Data, was it you who was saying it was sort of
slow? I hope it's not too bad...

Anyway, I really appreciate all the feedback I've gotten from you and some
of the other people on the lists... Sorry I was a bit abrasive, but after
posting my help messages and getting no responses I was sort of frustrated
and took it out unfairly on the RPGenX board. You guys actually do a great
job and I can sense the rumblings of a pretty cool movement happening...

Anyway, sorry for being so grumpy, I hope I haven't ruined anybody's day...
