With Clear, if a field's type is changed from character to numeric or vice
versa, you don't have to hunt down your eval's or z-add's or move's and
change them -- just recompiling the program will use the appropriate value.

Of course, if you do make such a change, you'll undoubtedly have a whole
boatload of other things to worry about too.

Just a thought.
 
Another thought is that I haven't seen anyone mention whether EVAL X = *ZERO generates anything different than Z-ADD *ZERO X or CLEAR X, or whether there's any performance difference between EVAL, Z-ADD or CLEAR.
