I think that Chuck Lewis is organizing a group with that very purpose in
mind.  As for ideas other than full page ads, why not get a few of the
more well spoken members of the list, such as yourself, to draft a
letter spelling out the greivence.  Once it is accepted each person on
this list should download it and mail a signed copy to each of the
industry publications (MC, News/400, InfoWorld) perhaps even make it to
the attention of a specific member of the staff. 

Also, as for payment and donations, check out paypal.com you can set up
an account there and people can email your account funds.
