>>>snip>>> We have a remote printer (Outq) that the spool file status is *SND but nothing at all is happening. What should I be looking for to determine the casue of the problem? >>>snip>>> Phil, You can do a WrkJob Job(remote_outq) Option(*SELECT). If you have multiple jobs with the remote_outq name, you will see the Select Job screen. Choose the job whose Status = Active. You will see Work with Job screen, where you can select option 10 to look at the job log. This may help you determine what is causing your problems. Usually when I have a spool file in *SND status in a remote output queue that isn't actually getting sent, the problem is that the printer (Jet Direct card) is rejecting the AS/400s attempts to send it data. This could be caused by a lot of reasons, including having multiple devices using the same IP address. If you are having this problem, try resetting the printer and the JetDirect card. Something that may make problem-solving a little easier is to convert your remote output queues to printer devices if your printers support PJL (most printers after the HP3 printers do). I had about 100 printers to convert from remote output queues to printer devices, so I created a command that would convert them automatically. If you go this route and would like a copy of the source for the command, let me know.
