  • Subject: Replace SEU with Code/400???

Hi,
I've just made my first "real" attempt to use Code/400 to create a new
printer file. I did it just as I almost always do, pull in one with the
standard headings already in place, and modify it as needed.

Man, this is much slower than SEU. Maybe if you are new to printer
files and SEU you'd see an advantage, but for me, it was very painful.
Or, maybe if you start creating a printer file with absolutely no idea
what the report is going to wind up looking like, it may be a good
"design" tool.
I saw no way to emulate the "F15 and view the compiled listing while
correcting the source". This is one of my main tools.
Also, I thought it would be great for lining up the headings with the
"columns" of data, but I never saw a way to view multiple records on a
screen.
IBM dropped the price by 75% and announced that SEU has stopped in it's
tracks, so I bought a copy of Code and installed it. They should follow
(or purchase) the RDA product and go in that direction. This is
(almost) as bad as RLU, which I've also found to be much slower than
SEU.
I'm trying to "stay up" with all the new techniques and all that, but
this one needs some work.

I still have to create the dspf for the report parms, a very simple
screen, maybe it's better at that? Or maybe I'll get better at using
it???
But, on the bright side, it has lots of colors, and at least I didn't
get a blue screen THIS time.
