Oliver, Ok, let me think about this. The SRC 540404 essentially means that the test frame sent by the 5494 was never answered. Which confirms that something is not configured correctly at the address level. It's been a while since I have had to deal with this. We used to do this but eventually put in a ETH card in the AS/400 to communicate with the ETH attached 5494's. You will have to invert addresses. On the AS/400 side you will want to invert the address of the 5494. On the 5494 you will have to invert the address of the AS/400. I hope that makes sense. Now, you can cheat and overide the adapter addresses to something that will invert to themselves. If you do not have a lot of devices to do this with this may make life very easy. If you have lot's of devices it may make address management a bear. There are certain numbers that invert to themselves. Anyway, numbers like 42, 66, and 24 will invert to themselves. For example you can have the 5494 addressed as 420000002424 and use this address on the AS/400. I would assume changing the TRN address isn't easy but something like 420000000024 or whatever will work. If you don't want to address these cards manually then invert the target address. Leave your source address alone. I used to actually have a program help me do this. I think even CA/400 had a program to do this. We already have an ethernet backbone and our 620 is connected to both lans. On a second site, we have a small t/r with a 5494 attached, going to the main site by leased line and routers (CISCO 2500). The 5494 connects to the t/r adapter of the AS/400, but I need it to go to the ethernet card. I tried to configure the 5494, but couldn't get it connecting. I've been told by IBM that I might have to translate the adapter adress to ethernet format - but which one or both? I have two adapter adr on the config screen ( the adress of the 5494 and the AS/400 adress). I tried several variations, but couldn't get the 5494 to connect. On the operator panel, it gave SRC 460/0 540404. Any suggestions or tips on this?
