MIDRANGE-L generates 80 odd items per day. It takes me about an hour to go through the mail per day. If I do it during work time I am not doing what I am paid to do. If I do it during my own time I have to find this hour from a fairly busy schedule, not always possible. > Once the noise threshold exceeds the quality level people drop off. > They simply can't be bothered to sift through the dross for the few > (very few) grains of gold. In fact I delete many messages at the 'Heading' level often wondering if there is something interesting I am removing. Personally I dont reply to messages if I have seen someone else already reply. This means I go thru the messages in LRFR (last received, first read) order. I also avoid chit-chat although I can see the human relationship and networking and plain old fun of it. (Really comes down to what the list is used for.) I use it for HELP even if it turns out to be something stupid like my last message about WinNT (reboot the PC) (to which I had no responses), I assume not many AS400 are connected to WinNT PCs. Still as I get more expert at e-mail I cull the messages and get the time required down to 15-20 mins, but then what is the point of getting 80 messages if I simply hit the delete button on 60 of them (before reading) its rather pointless, hence unsubscribing. ____________________________________________________________________ Get your own FREE, personal Netscape WebMail account today at http://webmail.netscape.com. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
