Assumption #1 - You are using RPG IV
Assumption #2 - You have the time event dates (you will need these if event
one happened before mid night and event two happened after mid night).
If both assumptions are true, then you can build time stamp fields and use
the SUBDUR op code to calculate the duration.
 high_stamp        SUBDUR      Low_Stamp         Result:*S 
This will yield the number of seconds between the two time stamps.  You can
use *MN for minutes between the events and *H for hours.  
This information was gleaned from the RPG IV reference from IBM's Info
Center.
If you are not using RPG IV, then good luck, because this type of processing
gets to look real ugly.
