Look up MI instruction CVTEFN. I know that it will directly create a packed or zoned, I don't recall if it will directly create a float. If it won't directly create a float we could create a packed or zoned intermediate value then use CPYNV to copy the packed or zoned into a float or one of the conversion instructions. You have to feed this instruction some information about the input and the output but it does all the work in hardware instructions. I always thought that it was a splendid instruction but had very few uses for it in my applications. sure, it could do all of that kind of thing if someone wanted to put the work in. It could be made to adapt to different and output values. Could we have a simple, fast MI program that does what C2N, atof, atoi, etc. do? +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
