In 1996 I was one of the authors of redbook "Database Parallelism on the AS/400, SG24-4826-00", available here: http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/abstracts/sg244826.html It has a chapter on database SMP support and what it can do for you (including performance measurements). There were multiple enhancements since that time, but most of it is valid. You might want to have a look.
