Keith,

We use File-Flash Plus from BCD(Business Computer Design) in
Hinsdale, IL..
Ph# 630-986-0800. This file editor allows you to update fields within a
single record, position to specific records within a PF or LF and make
changes, use OPNQRYF to select subsets of a file, has a great MASS UPDATE
feature which allows you to preview/change the contents of a field
throughout a file. It even allows you to combine the MASS UPDATE and
OPNQRYF features to select subsets and update fields in one process. BCD's
support is a little weak although overall the software gives us the
functionality we need. Give it a try.

Subject: Editing Files

Hi all,

We have just recently migrated from a S/36 to AS/400 and we are having a
problem adjusting when it comes to been able to edit a physical file
directly. On the 36 we used to use a 3rd party package called fledit to
edit the files and this was very handy. Are there any packages that allow
you to edit files easily included files that are almost 90% packed fields
and that are not externally defined. I know about WRKDBF but it's not very
friendly when it comes to files that are not externally defined.

TIA.

Keith
