> The AS/400 RS232/V24 ports max out at 19.2kbps. No modem, no matter > how fast will be able to talk to your 400 at a faster bitrate than > that. For higher speeds you need to use a different interface (X.21 or > somesuch.) Um, that IS what the book says, but fortunately the AS/400 can't read. I was told by an source withing Rochester that this limit was to achieve certain FCC ratings. Of course it also means that when you exceed it, they won't support it. I have Often run 56K and 64K on these ports with nary a hitch. On the newer PCI hardware I have run 115,200 and I think that may actually be a supported speed now. Although I can't find ANY reference to max speed in the system handbook. With the USR modems (I prefer the Courier for reliability and best connectivity) I set the port to 57,600. FYI I support a customer with a 240 digital modem pool. The best speed we have EVER seen was about 50K with the average probably below 40K. It DOES matter what modem you are dialing in with too. Those crappy $15 WinModems supplied with most PC's don't get the highest speeds. In fact the same customer has 32 analog (USR courier) modems because some cheap modems won't even connect to the V.90 modems! You get what you pay for. Also remember the high speed is download only, uploads will never exceed 33.6K. HTH - Larry -- Larry Bolhuis | Arbor Solutions, Inc | IBM AS/400e - Get There First!
