Hans: Follow the money. Corporations are defined as economic entities and are frequently inept when they follow motives outside the economic domain. It will also make IBM predictable which everyone (including you) will like. I'm glad to hear that you tried the list. I'm also glad that you found the experience acceptable. I suggest that you keep doing things that succeed. I would have predicted that experts gave different suggestions than non-experts. There is a place for clever but solutions have to fit the environment. On the other hand, I also think that it is wrong to design to your least-clever programmer. Tough call. My comfort zone ends at the edge of the unemployment desert. If I don't keep up, I cannot keep unemployment away - I will get ambushed.
