1)  I would just like to point out that the major focus of this discussion 
has been about using SQL as a data definition language, not SQL in general.

2)  IMHO, embedded SQL in RPG is pretty ugly.  In its simplest form it 
gives you no advantage over native RPG I/O.  For complex needs I think it's 
a kludgy way to access data.  It's difficult to debug, is not standard 
across platforms and can cause major performance problems.

  The above does not apply to "quickie" interactive SQL runs, where I think 
SQL shines.
