A possible alternative to qry400:

Do you have access to STRQM "DB2 Query Manager"?  Queries created using
Query Manager can be created either as a prompted query or as SQL.  When
using these queries, you can pass in variables at run time.  You run these
queries by using the command STRQMQRY.  I've successfully used these type of
queries many times when there is a need to pass in variables such as date
ranges.

    dclf screen
    rcvf screen 
    runqry xxxxx parm &item
end pgm

I do not want the user to have access to the select on qry itself.
