John,

We sometimes print 100+ page reports to IP attached laser printers. It used to
cause us all sorts of problems, specifically the printers would time out. IBM
advised us of a PTF (can't remember which, but it's a V4R3 PTF) which helped a
little bit, but not a lot. In the end IBM's recommendation was to change the
TCPKEEPALV value on the CHGTCPA command down to 50 secs (we had 120). This is
how long before the AS/400 will send a probe to something not responding. On the
printer side you have to up the Job Timeout and TCP/IP Timeout values to as high
as they can go. The printers we did this to can now print spool files of several
hundred pages without timing out, or at least about 95% of the time.

According to what IBM told me, these problems should have been fixed in V4R4.
We're planning to upgrade sometime in the next few months, so I would be
interested to hear from anyone already on V4R4 whether IP attached printing is
still a problem.

Thanks

Adam Driver

So it just doesn't work right yet ?????

How is it IBM can't figure out how to send a spool file to a printer
????

Is anyone able to print several hundred page reports on IP attached
laser printers consistently without any problems???

To borrow from a frequent poster on this list - This Sucks
