We regularly print 1,000 - 2,000 pages on a mixture of Lexmarks and HP's.
My experience was the reverse of Buck's. The device description method just
would not work consistently.

After downloading a number of PTF's and altering outqueue parameters as per
the Printing Redbook (V I think) all finally worked consistently. The
redbook was a definite bonus, especially the trouble shooting section.
