Within the last few weeks, as mentioned in the article, JDE extended the
period of support for World out to 2005. It had been next year sometime, I
think. It has been speculated that a lot of World customers were thinking
of staying with the unsupported World and creating their own gui or web
interfaces were they wanted them instead of moving to OneWorld. JDE would
lose maintenance fees from all these customers, instead they have chosen to
continue supporting World and providing these interfaces themselves. JDE's
financial results haven't been that great lately and if their customers
didn't move to OneWorld and that's all they supported, things wouldn't be
good. Sounds to me like JDE is trying to listen to it's customers so it can
stay in business.
