Obviously there is a serious problem with a batch of the 6606s.
I suspect only went out in your local US Market.What you described to me was
a production fault--a failure on first ever powerdown quite different from a
normal wear and tear cold start problem.

--I would be tempted to get IBM to change all the 6606 disks as clearly you
have been sold a bad batch
I have left my Model 500 powered down for 2  weeks once  and touch wood no
problems yet!
