Yup it is required.  You'll also be using the CRTSQLxxxx command set.

There are several.  I'm not sure if there's any in Jon's latest Redbook
and don't have it loaded on line here.  

Checkout several of the Common sessions on it.  Roland Mitchell used to do
a really decent session with great examples, also Charley Massoglia's
sessions and books as well go into it.
