Al, Urban myth (sort of). This sort of thing does not really happen these days, but historically this was the case in some heavily unionised industries such as construction and the public service. However, in the last 15 years or so a lot has been done to restructure Australian industry. The previous Labor government even managed to convince the union movement to accept reductions in real wages over a period of 6 or 7 years to control inflation. Sorry about the off the topic mail. By the way, the IT industry in Australia has never unionised to any great degree. As far as I'm aware there aren't actually any specific IT unions.
