Dan and other Outlook users,

I'm using Outlook '98, rather than '97, but I think they and Outlook 2000
are pretty similar in this regard. Users of Outlook Express, please note
that this DOES NOT apply to you - in its infinite wisdom, Microsoft chose to
make the controls for Express work completely differently - grrr. I can
provide those settings as well, if anyone wants them.

Starting point - Go into Tools/Options/Mail Format and see what your default
format is. If it's set to Plain Text, you'll find when you're entering a
message that it will default to Plain Text but will allow you to change it
from the Format option. If it's set to one of the others, it doesn't make
it easy for you to pick when you enter a message.

Address book - Go into it and find Midrange-L and look at its properties.
Make sure that you DON'T have the "send mail in rich text format only" box
checked. Next, go into Send Options and check the box for specifying the
format to use. Then set it to Mime and Plain Text. Do NOT use Plain
Text/UUEncode.

If anyone knows of any other tricks to make sure that Outlook behaves
properly in this regard, I'd like to know.
